Been using this 4p tent now for 3 years. I bought it because I figured my kids would have a harder time destroying it. Overall it has held up great with no durability issues. Fits easily into the storage bag- not sure why a previous reviewer was having issues with that- not even a problem with the footprint packed too. Have not tested the tent in any severe weather- just light rain and minimal wind. One thing I wish was incorporated into the design would be larger/longer storage pockets. There are 4 storage pockets sewn into the tent but each one is so small that it can hold something about the size of a smart phone and that is it. Kelty should get rid of the guy-out storage sleeves on the fly (just sew an attachment ring in its place) and design bigger storage pockets (with mesh so you can see what's in the pocket). Then you would have the perfect 4p tent. I car camp with 2 adults and 2 children and there is plenty of room. Would not hesitate to take backpacking or canoe camping. Josh on Apr 3rd 2017
Adults and youth have used this model for the last two years with very satisfactory results. However there is one major flaw and and two lesser ones. The tent bag should be considerably larger as it is way too small for the tent body, the fly and the poles. The components of the tent cannot be returned to the tent bag while camping. The result is that the fly is left outside the tent bag to be carried separately for the remainder of the outing. That is a very unsatisfactory solution. Once home, the tent and fly have to be tighten together with several straps so that with considerable effort the tent can be slid back into the bag. It is incredibly poor of Kelty to make a premium tent and then provide a tent bag that is not usable.
Lesser complaints are that the tent bag does not have a strap at the far end. The absence of this strap makes it very difficult to pull the very tight tent out of the bag. The other complaint is that the straps of webbing on the rain fly holding the grommets slip through the slots on the plastic holder and disappear. The result is a rain fly without a grommet to stake out.
Kelty has a fine product but it has problems since in actual use, the storage of the tent components become a major concern on an outing. A tent camper ought to be able to easy return all the components of the tent to the tent bag without resorting to straps and steel grip hands. Byron Almquist on Dec 24th 2016
I've been a Scoutmaster with the BSA for ~18 years. The Outfitter Pro 4 is the best Boy Scout backpacking tent I've found on the planet. With the reinforced floor and the beefy zippers this tent is virtually scout proof. The double vestibule design is ideal for keeping the boys and their gear dry. A dry scout is a happy scout. Love this tent. David on Aug 20th 2015
