There is only one tent I want if the weather is going to be bad. I have inherited a few backpacking tents that are lighter than this 2 person tent. With the tent split so the weight is shared its my go to tent for trips when I know its going to rain. Also, it holds up when camping in the windiest places. Long hikes I would go with a lighter tent but shaving a couple ounces isn't worth a bad nights sleep. Really the only reason I would go with a lighter 1-person for a trip is to get a little further away from my snoring tent/backpacking buddy.
The loft is incredible, well worth the extra purchase since the weight is negligible. Only one wish is that it would be designed to make the fly easily retractable for warm clear nights and a quick cover for waking up to a sudden rain. Other than that the double side zipper is great. looked long and hard at every tent in the price range , this covered all of my criteria , full tent , fly only for light packing , I keep the foot print / fly in my day pack in case I get trapped in a sierra storm while day hiking , its a little heavy when all together but if Im going to pack a little extra I'll do it w/ my shelter . this is my one for everything shelter tim on Sep 28th 2016
