    1. Pole coupling is crap

Great tent. I love everything about it except the metal coupling holding the poles together is ridiculously thin. I've had five of the poles break at this point. The last time, I had just gotten the poles back from Kelty and it broke in two different places then another pole broke in a different place the very next time I set it up. I got around this problem by buying 3/8" plastic piping to slide over the poles as a temporary coupling which worked fine. It wouldn't work, however, if one of the top side poles broke like that because you wouldn't be able to get the coupling into that spot without somehow disassembling the pole entirely.

If Kelty figured out a better pole system, this would be my favorite truck camping tent ever. As it stands, it's a good idea with poor execution.

    2. expected more!

got the frontier 4 for a great price, but was surprised the poles are coupled together with metal a little stronger than tin foil! two split and one broke completely! thinking I need this for a scout camping event in the near future I figured out 1/2" pipe is a good replacement in the field so I have 4 spares and tape packed with the tent as a backup. Its not a backpacking tent why would you use light weight pole couplers? on Apr 10th 2016

This is the Taj Mahal of tents! I really appreciate that it's huge and heavy. For car camping with the wife this really fits the bill. She wants roomy, comfortable accommodations so my Kelty Salida 2 was too confining for her. The separate vestibule area gives us a separate space for gear storage and hanging out. We love the three-door design as it offers a lot of versatility and gives more choices when pitching. I particularly like that the main end door can be used as an awning extension (I bought a couple 7' extendable poles for that purpose). I was able to really test the tent this weekend in the New Mexico mountains close to home. We had a rainstorm and gusty winds- the tent held up perfectly. The canvas fabric is absolutely waterproof and its weight keeps it from being noisy in the wind. The tent sets up easily (I was by myself) and has many guyout points that keep it really taut in the wind. There are many openings for ventilation on the eaves, and of course the huge windows let the air through when you want, and also open up the view out. If you're looking to invest in a family camping tent that will be around for many years to come, you MUST consider the Kelty Frontier 4!! on Nov 2nd 2015

Great tent. Easy for one person to set up. Very spacious, good air flow. For a truck-camping tent, this is the best I've had. The vestibule is huge, you can cook and hang out in it no problem. Lots of room in the "bedroom" section, at 6' tall I can stand up without touching to top of the tent. My only suggestion would be to have a full floor in the vestibule rather than the half-floor. on Feb 1st 2015
